Colonial Willamsburg

We got to Virgina late Saturday night.  We decided to get groceries so that we didn't have to shop on Sunday.  While we were at the Food Lion, we were stopped and asked if we were LDS and if we knew where and when church was the next day.  We thought this was funny because I guess we just look like Mormons. Sunday was a beautiful day, we went to church and met a lot of really great people in Willamsburg.  It is so great that you can travel accross the country and have the same Sunday school lesson in Virgina that you would at home.  We just hung out the rest of the day and enjoyed a peaceful Sunday.  Monday morning we headed over to colonial Willamsburg.  It was only about 10 minutes from where we were staying.  We had a full day, with lots of walking.  The buildings are so interesting, we also went on a tour of the museum and learned a ton about George Washington.  For lunch we ate a the cheese shop, so good!  You know how much I love cheese. At first we kept thinking about how weird it was not to have any of the kids with us, but we got over it pretty quickly.   I wore what I thought were comfortable shoes, but by the end of the day my feet wouldn't even fit into them.  I was so swollen, but walked through the pain.  That night we went on a ghost tour of some of the homes, which wasn't scary at all, but entertaining.  By that time I was ready to take my elephant hands and feet home and soak in the tub!
Justin and I at the start of the day.

Justin decided to take a spiritual moment in a very old church .

This is inside the Palace.

The gardens at the Palace were my favorite part.  Love all the Magnolia trees, everything is so green.

More of the gardens.

Our one regret on this vacation, spending $100+ on an authentic colonial dinner at King's tavern.  It wasn't very good.  Here is Justin eating pickled watermelon rine.  We also had some yummy bread that reminded me of the cushion of a school bus seat.  The main course wasn't too bad, but not worth the money.  Dessert was the best part, homeade peppermint ice cream and hot fudge.

Yummy!
